Like other casino games slot has its own
terms, and as a player it’s necessary to get familiar
with them.
RNG (Random Number Generator):
A computer chip placed inside the slot machine by the manufacturer
is known as Random Number Generator. Its purpose is to randomly
select hundreds of numbers and symbols every second, faster
than you can pull the handle or click the spin button. Even
when the machine is idle, it's working. After the first
coin is dropped or credit played, each random number corresponds
to a certain reel and symbol combination that is randomly
chosen. For jackpot, there are the fewest programmed combinations.
Reels:
The number of wheels/reels showing on slot with symbol
combinations imprinted. Usually there are three, but some
slots have five.
Slot Schedule:
This is information posted on front of slot machine and
tells about type of slot; denomination and win amounts are
possible for each coin played. Slot Schedule is also known
as the slot payout schedule.
Up/Down Slot Cycle:
Slot's average payoff percentage rate applies over the
long haul, as long as one year. Therefore, a slot advertised
as having a 98% payoff rate will sometimes pay off at 130%
and other times at 50%…sometimes at 28% and other
times at 502%. Down cycle indicates the lower percentage,
and up cycle indicates the higher percentage. It is also
known as Sizzling/Sputtering Slot.
Slots Drop and Hold:
The slots drop is the amount of money through the slot
machine. The slots hold is the amount of money, which is
not paid out as winnings. These two numbers can determine
slot’s payout percentage. Dividing the hold number
by the drop number and multiplying by 100% calculate a slot
machine payout percentage.
Slot Testing:
The act of playing through a single roll of coins without
using accumulated credits, (and keeping track of the drop
and hold), to determine your session possible payout percentage
for a selected slot.
Loose/Tight slots:
On an average, over a period time, loose slots will have
better payoffs to a "certified" high of 100%.
For example, let say a machine has a symbol, 2-3 cherries,
which pay a couple of coins. If these cherries are replaced
by a symbol that doesn’t pay, then you have a loose
machine. Whereas in tight slots, machine have more paying
symbols and thus have the greater possibility of payouts.
Slot-mix or Slot Placement:
Generally the loosest slots are placed in high paying
slot machines near highly visible areas of the casino so
that winners can be seen and heard better by the populace.
Since slot location plays an important role it’s location
should be analyzed properly.
Multiplier Slots:
It pays for certain symbols on a graduating scale. On a
three reel, you get 5 pay for 1 coin, 10 pay for 2 coins
and 15 pay for 3 coins. More the number of coins played
greater the payout.
Buy-your-Pay:
Each coin you play triggers the posted symbol payout.
For example, if you play one coin, you only trigger 'cherry'
pays. Two coins triggers 'cherries' and 'bars'.
Double Machines:
These are the slot machine that pays double or triple with
winning combinations of certain symbols lined up, e.g. Double
Diamond, Triple Diamond, RWB 7's.
Short Win:
It happens frequently, that large jackpot is won after
a small cash outlay.
Sound of Rain:
coins falling into the box after a payout.
