| The objective as a player
is to get a hand which is highest-valued hand according
to card ranking rules.
Each player has to place an "ante" or "token bet" or "an
insignificant amount" into the pot before cards is dealt.
The reason for betting is that it assures a player of
constantly winning something on each hand. The amount of a
bet can vary. Now after the cards are dealt a player has
three basic choices of making a bet:
After the players make the first bare minimum bet, five
cards are dealt to the players with cards facing down. It's
now that the players start the first round of betting. Any
player will have to at least call to continue playing the
game. Now all players have an opportunity to decide for
which cards to keep and which cards to throw away. A player
can either throw away or hold as many cards out of total
five cards. Once every player has decided which cards to
hold or throw away, the dealer deals the same number of
cards to each player as they discarded. Now, the second
betting round is about to begin.
After all the players are through the betting, they
arrive at the end of a round when there are no further
raises and all cards are dealt. Now every player needs to
open their closed cards and then the hand which has the
highest-value wins the game.
So starting from the highest to lowest, the hand rankings
are as follows:
- Royal Flush
- Straight Flush
- Four of a kind
- Full House
- Flush
- Straight
- Three of a kind
- Two pairs
- One pair
- Ace-King
