You can save yourself from an extremely embarrassing situation, especially when you are sitting down to play a $5 bet, not knowing that there is a green table limit sign on that table. Well! Only if you knew that a green color signifies $25, you would have been saved of that humiliation.
And if you spent a lot of time in a casino, then you must be carrying some chips with you to carry to the cage, to cash them out. But, what if you don’t remember what each color chip values? Do you know how bothersome it will be then, to stagger over to the cage, trying to calculate how much money you should be getting back?
All table games in the casinos have a small board on the table and most of them color-code their table game signs listing the minimum bet for that game and to match the value of the chip. Generally, regular players don't even have to read the sign; all they have to do is look at the color and they can come to know the lowest betting value of the table.

These are considered as universal color coding of chips and are used in the majority of casinos with each color signifying a value:
Orange chips are one thousand dollars and are also called Pumpkins
Purple chips are five hundred dollars and are also called Barneys
Black chips are one hundred dollars
Green chips are twenty-five dollars and are also called Quarters
Red chips are five dollars and are also called Nickels
White or Blue chips are casino-specific but generally are one dollar

Mostly all the casinos use this universal color coding of chips, but you may come across a few casinos which may change and use a different color for the one dollar chips, but red and green chips are the standards in most casinos, and mostly represent the same values.

Different casinos have different policies and rules. Some casinos may have the same color sign for minimum bets, on all the tables, while some will have a rule, that have half of their tables will not correspond to chip colors such as $10 and $15 games. In this case, there minimum bets will be starting from a higher limit like $25 or so. That is the reason why, it is important for a player to have proper knowledge about each color chip and its value, so that he is able to read and comprehend the table signs, before he finds himself a seat and places his bet.

So, next time you visit a casino, all you have to do is match the color of the chips with the table signs, and it will become easy for you to tell the minimum bet for a table in just a quick glance. This will make your gambling experience much more convenient and easy. Everyone, especially the players, love the look and feel of casino chips. A most common sight of a casino is watching the players shuffle the remaining chips in their hands, waiting and choosing a game to bet on, again. And what’s more amazing is the fact that even the restaurants love them, as it is a well known fact that the people, who have chips in their hands, tip more and often.
